Difficulty and Demo Saves in Flowers and Deities
Pick a lane you will finish. Do not bring a June profile into August.
The first menu after New Profile is not flavor. Flowers and Deities uses difficulty to decide how hard the 6×5 grid punches back, how generous the shop feels after a loss, and whether a learning campaign is a lesson or a refund. This page is the missing how-to for that screen. Combat rules stay on How to Play. The first-hour route stays on Getting Started.
The game launched on Steam on 14 August 2026. A separate launch note disabled demo save compatibility the same day. If you still have a playtest or Next Fest folder, treat it as a museum. 1.0 will not continue it.
What the difficulty lanes actually change
The demo labeled a middle option the Thorned Path. That name is still the one players search, so we keep it, and we treat it as the intended first full run: hard enough that a bad deploy order loses a series, soft enough that one lost arena does not delete the campaign. Lower and medium lanes in 1.0 slightly reduce enemy equipment budgets after a defeat. That sentence is official launch text, not a rumor. It means a clean retry is part of the design.
Higher lanes keep the full enemy kit. Use them after you have cleared the grid once, or after you already know your origin and faith pair from the starter builds. Do not pick the top lane because a trailer looked easy. The trailer is a column of lizards. The campaign is thirty stages plus hidden arenas.
Difficulty does not change the blood rules. Corpses still fill the pool. Sacrifice still works. How Blood Works is the same essay on every lane. What changes is how much armor and magic the other side brought, and how quickly a 1–1 series becomes a 1–2 if your backline walks into melee.
Demo, playtest, and 1.0 profiles
Three stamps matter. The public playtest ran 12–19 June 2026. Steam Next Fest shipped a thicker demo with events, redesigned blessings, and Custom Battle; that history now lives on Next Fest Notes. The full game launched 14 August 2026 and immediately said demo saves cannot continue.
That disable is not a bug. The shop, Forge, campaign grid, Slave Hunting, Feather Ornaments, and achievement tablet all moved. A June roster would lie about slots, poison caps, and ranged pack sizes. Start a new profile. If you want the mechanical list of what 1.0 added, read Launch Notes.
Custom Battle in the demo was a sandbox for testing armies, not an online queue. Steam still lists Single-player and Family Sharing only. Do not buy the game expecting ranked lizard ladders.
When to raise or drop a lane
Raise difficulty when you are finishing the 6×5 with leftover gold and no magic panic at the finale. Drop it when you are rage-rerolling the Tower instead of learning How to Recruit. The post-defeat gear ease on medium lanes is there so you can stay on Thorned Path and still finish. Using it is not a shame state.
If the Underworld map stutters, that is not a difficulty problem. Turn on Low-End Mode from patch 8.15 and read Controls. A slideshow does not make you a better commander.
How this page ties to the rest of the wiki
Pick the lane, then lock origin and faith on Origins and Faiths. Track stages on the campaign tracker. If the finale still deletes you with magic, the walkthrough is How to Beat the Campaign, not a second difficulty drop.
There are no redeem codes that unlock an easier lane. Flowers and Deities is a paid Steam release. Anyone selling “difficulty codes” is inventing a live-service the store does not have.
The honest first-week habit is one Thorned Path profile, one faith you can explain in a sentence, and a willingness to lose a series so the next deploy order is smarter. That is the whole point of the softer defeat rule. Use it. Then go win the hidden arenas instead of starting a fourth profile because the first shop rolled a bow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers drawn from the current Steam build.
What difficulty should I pick in Flowers and Deities?
Start on the middle lane, the Thorned Path name from the demo, unless you already cleared a 1.0 campaign. Lower and medium lanes ease enemy gear after a loss.
Can I continue a demo save in the full game?
No. The 14 August 2026 launch patch disabled demo save compatibility. Create a new profile.
Does difficulty change blood or Favor rules?
No. It changes how hard the enemy kit hits. Blood, sacrifice, and Favor still work the same. Read How Blood Works for the pool.
Is Custom Battle multiplayer?
No. It was a demo sandbox for testing armies. Steam lists single-player only.
