Flowers and Deities Controls
The clicks that keep a three-hour campaign readable.
Flowers and Deities is a mouse-driven city and a click-to-deploy arena. There is no hidden combo list. There is a pile of panels, and the commanders who bounce are usually lost in a menu, not in a mechanic. This page is the operational manual. Strategy lives in How to Play.
Steam lists Windows and macOS. The launch build added a Low-End Mode and widened UI scale because the inventory and the Underworld map were already community complaints.
City clicks
Left-click selects, buys, equips, and starts a node. Right-click opens the deep tooltip: stats, traits, Reach, backgrounds, and the little story about why a raider is not a rebel. Do this to every Tower offer before you spend. The shop showing a background portrait is not decoration; 0.8.1 put 75+ backgrounds in the buy screen on purpose.
The encyclopedia also lives in Settings. If a keyword such as Desecrated Weapon or Slave feels undefined, search there before you invent a meaning. Demo players asked for clearer keywords. Some of that landed; some of it still reads like a translation scar. Believe the encyclopedia over a memory from June.
Replace Army is the loadout. Unequip a unit before you try to move its gear onto a recruit or the item stays glued to a reserve stack. Magic Items is the inventory. Tower is the recruit shop. Forge is craft, reroll, and quality. Those four rooms are the whole town.
Arena clicks
In setup, left-click a skill-bar stack to place it. Click again if you have copies remaining. The circles under the icon are the copy count. The number on the icon is Favor. You cannot drag across the center line during setup.
During combat, left-click a spell or summon when it lights up. There is no pause-cast in the sense of a Frozen Synapse replay; you are steering a live fight. Use the speed buttons in the upper right when a matchup is solved. Reviewers who left speed off added an hour they did not need. Use pause if you need food. The campaign is long enough without pretending every jaguar has to be watched at 1x.
If a summon has a ground target, the click is the spawn. That is the entire Positioning lesson in one sentence.
Settings that are actually run-savers
UI scale. Patch 8.15 raised the scaler from 1–2 to 1–3. If item pages feel like a legal contract, raise it before you mis-sell a heroic.
Low-End Mode. Same patch. It disables rain, buff effects, and hit effects. Turn it on for the Underworld map or any Bloodshade circus that melts the frame rate. The patch also reduced Underworld performance issues at the source, but the toggle is the reliable fix.
Encyclopedia. Settings panel, not a separate app. Use it when a blessing mentions a status you have not seen.
There is no official controller bible on the store page. Play with a mouse. If a Steam Input profile appears later, treat it as community work, not a promise from Chill Winter Studio.
Performance and campaign hygiene
Close the three-page inventory with a plan: sort by slot, sell duplicates, leave. Mid-run players lose more time in menus than in arenas. The Forge guide is the shopping list so you stop browsing.
If text or UI looks wrong, 8.15 included a pile of text and UI fixes. Update the Steam build before you assume the wiki is confused.
System floors live on System Requirements. Official channels live on Official Links. If a setting name does not appear in your build, you may still be on a leftover demo executable; 1.0 disabled those saves and you should launch the released app.
Learn these clicks once. Then spend the mental budget on origins, not on finding the speed button in column four.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers drawn from the current Steam build.
How do I read full unit stats?
Right-click the unit in the city or arena preview. The encyclopedia in Settings covers keywords the tooltip assumes you know.
Where is combat speed?
Upper right during a fight. Use it on solved matchups. A campaign is long even with speed on.
What does Low-End Mode disable?
Rain, buff effects, and hit effects. It arrived in patch 8.15 to keep the Underworld map and heavy shade fights playable.
Can I play Flowers and Deities with a controller?
The store page does not advertise a first-party control scheme. Use a mouse. Community Steam Input is optional, not documented here as official.
